Snow Forecast Maps Updated 01312017

Every storm system be it a clipper or a one from the Gulf States or an intense coastal storm presents its own special forecast problems. The clipper is always one of those types of systems that looks innocent enough and yet every once in awhile they tend to surprise somebody, usually in a small geographic zone. The clipper for Sunday night into Monday is one such system and we will of course keep our eyes on the radar to see how the precipitation evolves. Weather models overnight either were more robust to a small degree like the NAM and GFS with slightly higher snow amounts and the precipitation shield a little further north or the Canadian which was less robust and further east as it places more emphasis on the second clipper for Tuesday.

Either way at this point with the European unavailable at the time of this posting, we would essentially leave our original forecast alone from earlier.

JOE’S SNOW FORECAST MAP FOR SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING

The northern fringe of light snow reaches Route 78 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania with probably no more than a coating in those areas. North of Route 78 and New York City it is likely that you won’t see a flake. South of Route 195 and in particular the southernmost New Jersey Counties have the best chances for seeing an inch or 2 with a small 2 to 3 inch band far south that extends into Delaware and back to the Washington DC Baltimore area. We will update our maps later this morning as we look at new data. In the meantime below are the latest updated National Weather Service snow forecast maps. This covers the first clipper system. The second one is likely for Tuesday and that would tend to favor areas further north. We will also address this later today.
