Showers Late Today As Cold Front Arrives Mainly Dry Week Ahead
Autumn arrived this morning shortly before 4am and as usual with the change of seasons we don’t flip switches as seasons due tend to bleed into each other. Summer is bleeding into Autumn today but there are some changes ahead. For the first time in 10 days we are actually seeing something on the radar as far as rain is concerned. It has been a spectacular stretch of weather but it has been a very dry 10 days with not a drop of rain. We have a chance for some scattered showers late this afternoon and evening as the first cold front in over two weeks arrives but we don’t expect severe weather from this. We have sunshine around to start the day as the satellite picture this morning shows we still have clear skies from Southern New England south and west. Temperatures will reach the middle to a few upper 80s. On the satellite picture in the lower right is Tropical Storm Jerry. Look carefully and you can see the exposed circulation on the west side of the convection. Jerry’s top winds are 65 mph and it is headed for a pass at Bermuda Tuesday and Wednesday with no impact on our weather here.
SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Regional radar is showing some showers in Western NY & Western Pennsylvania moving eastward. This is not the strongest cold front in the world so I would’t expect much from this other than a few scattered showers. The local radars are quiet and should be into this afternoon.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
There isn’t much change in the outlook for the week ahead. Skies should clear out tonight with lows in the 50s to lower 60s. Dry air returns Tuesday with sunshine and highs in the 70s. The same forecast holds for Wednesday as high pressure moves overhead.
Thursday looks dry to start with sunshine and some arriving clouds. We have another weak cold front moving through so there might be a late day or evening shower scattered around. Highs will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s. Then it is back to sunshine to finish the week Friday with highs in the 70s. Another front approaches on Saturday with arriving clouds and the chance for showers. Highs will be in the 70s to near 80. Sunday looks to be a mix of sun and clouds with an onshore flow and temperatures in the 70s.
