Sharply Below Average Temperatures Sunday Through Tuesday
We are at the time of year where we are seeing the gradual warming of the atmosphere. Unfortunately we still have cold air in Canada and the weather pattern aloft favors that cold air spreading southeastward into the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states. Fortunately the decline comes in stair step fashion and not in a big rush. This leaves us in a good place today. Skies are clearing out and we should see partly sunny skies today. Temperatures will top in the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon and the rain offshore is no threat as it moves to the east.

It is hard to say which is the better of the two weekend days. Saturday will be the warmer of the two days but it will also be a cloudy day with some showers around from mid morning into early evening. This is due to an upper trough moving through and behind that is the colder air which comes in Sunday. Highs Saturday will be in the low to mid 50s with upper 40s inland.
Sunday morning we will be in the 30s. While Sunday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds, it will also be windy and it will be cold. Highs will be in the low to mid 40s. Winds will be gusting to 30 mph or more at times making it feel like it is in the lower 30s.
The core of the cold air moves in for Sunday night and Monday and that will put us in temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below average. By Monday morning lows will be in the 20s with inland lows in the mid to upper teens. Winds will still be cranking Sunday night so you can subtract 10 degrees off the temperature with regards to how it will feel outside.
Monday will be the coldest day of this stretch. It will be a partly to mostly sunny day but it will still be rather windy and it will be very cold. Highs will be in the 30 but north and west of NYC highs may not make it much above 30. South and southwest of Philadelphia highs will be in the mid to upper 30s.
Another very cold night follows Monday night and Tuesday morning lows will be in the upper teens to mid 20s. We should see temperatures bounce higher on Tuesday with high clouds and some sun. Highs will reach the low and middle 40s. A weak warm front to the south of us will start to set up. It will wait for low pressure out of the Plains to move to the Great Lakes later next week.
The precipitation to the south dries up so we will have to wait until later Thursday for any rain coming in. In the meantime temperatures will move slowly higher Wednesday and Thursday but wind direction is going to be from the south and that will slow the warm up along the coast. Everyone is itching for a nice stretch of warm spring weather but it isn’t going to be coming anytime soon.
