Severe Weather Risk Saturday Evening
Much Of The Weekend Looks Good
The weather today thorugh Sunday much of the time will be fine. The spinning vortex in Eastern Canada continues to dominate the weather pattern and the next disturbance to rotate around it will be heading this way for Saturday. Most of the daytime Saturday will be fine and Sunday will be good too. There is a window for possible thunderstorms from about 4pm until about 2am from northwest to southeast.

The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the slight risk area for severe weather to cover everyone from Southern New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania northeastward to all of Southern New England. Models remain all over the place regarding this. Conditions are favorable atmospherically with a very unstable environment developing Saturday but the upper features to me are not exactly screaming bullish for thunderstorms. Again I think the best approach is the continue to mention the risk for thunderstorms and leave it at that for now.
With regards to the rest of today, there are no issues. Lots of sunshine with a nice northwest breeze and highs in the 70s pretty much sums it up. Another clear nice night forecast tonight with lows in the 50s to near 60. Sunshine into Saturday afternoon than watch for thunderstorms with highs in the mid 70s coast to low 80s inland.

Saturday is the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes and the weather should be fine until we reach the risk time of 5pm or later with a Severe Weather Risk Saturday Evening. Main track will be fast and the turf course firm at least through that time. Hopefully storms hold off. Or as the NAM Model suggests, perhaps they avoid us completely. What the model suggests is some scattered storms develop early and essentially rob the atmosphere of most of the juice so when the real dynamics arrive in the evening they have little left to work on.
Sunday looks good too behind a cold front. It will be breezy and warm initially with a mix of sun and clouds with highs reaching the 80s before it turns cooler again Sunday night and into the first part of next week. The tropics are quiet. The longer term pattern would argue againt any long term stretches of hot weather other than a day here and there. We move forward!
