Severe Weather Risk Late Today Lower Humidity Arrives Late Sunday Monday

Today will be the last steamy day of this current stretch. As far as temperatures go the highest readings reached the low 90s on a couple of day. Most of the area saw highs in the mid to upper 80s. We should see upper 80s to lower 90s. Humidity levels are very high today and bring a cold front on to the scene late today and you have the ingredients for thunderstorms. We could see a few cells widely scattered around until this afternoon when they should become more numerous and then a line of storms will move through during the late afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has our area in a marginal risk for severe weather and that risk area is large extending across the Middle Atlantic States through all of the Northeast. Depending on how much sun we get through the clouds temperatures will reach the upper 80s and lower 90s in many locations.

REGIONAL RADAR

Keep any eye on the radars today and also keep a watchful eye to the sky especially this afternoon for what could be rapidly deteriorating weather conditions as thunderstorms develop. The main threat time for the heaviest thunderstorms from northwest to southeast will be from 3pm to 8pm.

Once these thunderstorms play through this evening we should see them shift southward as the cold front moves along offshore it is going to get hung up for awhile on Sunday. Humidity will be slow to drop on Sunday so it still may be on the humid Sunday through most of the area into Sunday afternoon. We are looking for clouds and some sun for Sunday. Being that we will be close to that boundary, areas in Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey could see a shower or thunderstorm around midday or early afternoon.

Areas to the North from Northeastern Pennsylvania eastward to Southern New England will likely be okay on Sunday and the humidity could start to drop a bit in the afternoon. Sunday’s highs will be in the low to mid 80s. We should see that dry air sink southward Sunday night. Monday should be a nice day of sunshine, reasonable humidity and highs in the low to mid 80s. Tuesday looks good too with sunshine, reasonable humidity and highs in the low to mid 80s.

The next cold front will be dropping into the Great Lakes late Wednesday so the heat and the humidity will start to come back with highs Wednesday in the mid 80s to some lower 90s. The front will increase the chances for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday with highs in the 80s. This front should move along bringing drier air for Friday and for at least the start of next weekend!
