Record High Temperatures Again Sunday
The next round of rain will be moving in tonight as a cold front slides south and stalls. This sets the process up for another shot of record warm temperatures for Sunday. There will be a little light rain around tonight and then we will sit in overcast skies on Saturday. Temperatures will eventually settle in the 40s to around 50 tonight and hold in the upper 40s and lower 50s on Saturday. There could be another round of light rain Saturday night as the warm air arrives.
Sunday we will see record high temperatures again in the 60s. A stronger cold front will arrive with a few showers and then it turns colder Sunday night and Monday as a cold high builds across the Northern Great Lakes and Southeast Canada and builds southward down the coast. We should see temperatures eventually settle in the 30s. Some upper 20s are possible in the lower Hudson Valley and in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The next storm system comes out of the southwest. Today’s dayside models show a deeper system that tracks further west. We noted over the last few days that the strength of the high and the strength of the southwest system were key. A weaker southwest system would track further east and allow for a colder look in the northeast. Today’s runs suggest a stronger low which would force warmer air further north as well. I’m not sold on this idea yet. It should be cold enough for some ice possibilities in the Hudson Valley into Northern New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania at the very least. Cold air should be more important in the equation so we will wait and see more model information later today after Christmas dinner is digested.
