Rain Overnight, Then Dry on Tuesday
It is a bit of a tricky forecast for tonight because areas from New York City north and east have cooled a bit this afternoon thanks to a warm front that is setting up. This has produced some patchy dense fog in areas from New York City north and east including Long Island and the Hudson Valley. Warmer air will actually cause temperatures to rise into the 60s tonight in those areas while everywhere south and west of there will be in the 60s. Some of the areas in Southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania touched 70 today with more records going by the wayside.
Satellite lops show the strong storm lifting through the Great Lakes. It is hard to believe that there is a storm of this magnitude but with no cold air very few areas are snowing. Even in Northern Maine where there is some snow it will go to freezing rain and then rain there before it ends. Such is the blow torch pattern.
Radar shows an area of showers to the west and those showers will hold off until after the evening rush hour drive. Once the front passes late tonight temperatures will settle in the upper 50s to near 60 by morning. In the meantime with warm temperatures still around after midnight it is possible that record highs for Tuesday will be set in some areas once the clock strikes 12.
Tuesday should see improving weather conditions with sunshine though temperatures probably won’t go anywhere and just hold in the upper 50s to lower 60s and then fall off toward evening. Wednesday looks good with sunshine and some high clouds with highs in the 50s. The next front will approach on Thursday and look for rain to develop with temperatures in the 50s before winds turn northeast and temperatures fall. Behind this wave cold air comes in for later Friday and the weekend and we have at least 2 days where temperatures are going to be close to normal for a change.
