Rain Friday Night Into Saturday Some Improvement Easter Sunday

Rain Friday Night Into Saturday Some Improvement Easter Sunday

We are starting to set the atmosphere up for downpours and even a few thunderstorms for late Friday into Saturday afternoon. The map above has rainfall forecast amounts into Saturday morning 8am so these numbers will go higher once we add the daytime Saturday into the equation. High clouds are nearby on the satellite loop late this afternoon and across the Western Gulf States and into the Plains tropical moisture is streaming northward from the Gulf of Mexico and severe weather is likely to break out there late this afternoon and tonight. The satellite shows 2 distinct pieces with a system in the north and the one in the south. All of this is coming together for a healthy round of wet weather for the Eastern half of the US.

There isn’t much happening on the radar at the moment but a warm front is beginning to set up to our south and this is going to start moving northward tonight and Thursday. Clouds will return tonight and there could be some passing light showers overnight into Thursday morning. The flow will go onshore and gradually turn more southerly as we move through the day on Thursday. Thursday remains a tricky day forecast wise because the warm front will probably make it at least half way through New Jersey. South Jersey, Southeast and South Central Pennsylvania will probably see clouds with developing breaks of sunshine as the day goes on with temperatures reaching the 70s while north of that boundary clouds and winds off the ocean will keep temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s at best.

Weather conditions deteriorate Friday with lots of clouds and a gusty south wind especially along the coast. Rain & thunderstorms will move in from the south as low pressure develops in the Southern Appalachians and slowly moves northward Friday night and Saturday. The downpours will come in waves and so will the thunderstorms with the first wave during Friday afternoon into Friday night and several more Friday night into Saturday early afternoon.

As far as the risk for severe weather is concerned there is a general risk for thunderstorms and the Storm Prediction Center for now on its early outlook is keeping marginal risk from Northeast Virginia to Southern Maryland to Central Delaware with an increasing risk of severe weather as you head south into Virginia and North Carolina. Saturday’s highs will be in the 60s to near 70 in most places.

Weather conditions should improve from south to north late Saturday into early Sunday however the atmosphere will still be rather unstable for Easter Sunday which means that some breaks of sun will give way to clouds and some scattered showers around. Highs Sunday will be in the 60s.

Next week should start of calm and quiet and on the warm side with highs into the 70s. The overall pattern is going to relax a bit with weaker systems moving along next week but no strong systems are forecast at this point.
