Rain Arrives Tonight
More Rain Later This Week
This week brings us the best chance for rain in quite awhile. The satellite loop below sows the approaching front but clouds are still pretty far to the west so much of today will be sunny with just some passing clouds. There is some cloud cover inland that look to be some moisture coming in ahead of the front. Rain should hold off until after sunset. It will arrive in western areas before midnight and in eastern areas along the coast after midnight. Temperatures today are recovering off the cool morning lows in the 40s and 50s and we should reach the upper 60s to a few lower 70s for highs.
The first round of rain should last into Tuesday morning and then tapering off from west to east. Clouds though will remain as we watch to see how the next round of energy develops. Weather models seem to keep rain out for the daytime Wednesday other than a few scattered showers and then a steadier rain develops Wednesday night and Thursday as low pressure begins to develop along the coast and a high to the north provides some decent Atlantic Ocean inflow.
Weather models continues to show some decent rain this week. The GFS model is particularly bullish showing 3 to 6 inches of rain for the whole week but I want to be cautious and cut this in half given the severe drought pattern we are still in. None of this moisture is a result of any tropical system. That is a completely separate issue and JOESTRADAMUS deals with that in his latest post.
The first round of rain is forecast to produce a quarter to a half inch which is down from earlier forecasts of double these amounts.
