Quiet Weekend Ahead Weak Storm Could Clip Coastal Areas

Late Monday Into Tuesday

The heavy rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow and whatever else may have fallen yesterday are finally all gone. Now we can go ahead and enjoy a nice but cold weekend. Clouds on the satellite are off shore as the frontal boundary has moved east. The southern part of the frontal boundary will stall off the Southeast coast and remain stalled into Monday. We have high pressure building in from the west leaving us in sunshine today but highs will only be in the 20s. and we have a cold night ahead with clear skies and lows in the single digits to near 10 inland and low to mid teens coast and warmer urban settings.

We have no issues for Sunday with partly to mostly sunny skies. Temperatures should nudge a bit higher as high pressure and the core of this current cold air mass moves overhead. Most highs Sunday will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s with some middle 30s southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey southward.

Monday we are going to see increasing clouds as the old frontal boundary to the south wakes up and a wave develops off the Southeast coast. Initially the wave moves northward close to the coast and it would give you the idea that it is going to move northward all the way up. The problem with this is that the flow out in the Atlantic is flat southwest to northeast. There is a lack of storminess in the Atlantic Ocean right now and without storms offshore somewhere, east coast systems have a difficult time climbing northward. It may be close enough however to produce some rain here late Monday into early Tuesday but for now it seems, any rain would be along the immediate coast and not penetrate too far inland. Monday highs will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Tuesday looks like a cloudy day with maybe a little leftover early rain Coastal New Jersey to Long Island eastward. Highs will reach the low 40s on average. Much of next week looks to be quiet. There are some vague signals that we could see some storminess down the road. What looks like a weak system could bring a little rain or snow Friday and something perhaps a bit stronger late next weekend or into the week of February 14th. For now though it seems things have quieted down after a very active 5 week period of winter weather.
