Quiet Weather As February Ends March Begins No Major Storms

It is a quiet weather Sunday on the second to last day of the month of February. The weather pattern across the US is quiet and it is going to stay quiet for much of the week ahead. We only see minor weather systems and weather fronts moving through the Eastern US with very little in the way of precipitation. The satellite view shows clouds to the south as a weather system with some rain moves through the Southeast. To the north we have clouds and snow showers from an upper trough and cold front. In between we have sunny skies and temperatures this afternoon that will top out in the mid 40s with warm spots to the south in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

A cold front will pass through late this afternoon and an upper trough will swing through this evening. There might be some scattered snow showers with the upper trough. Some places north and west of the coast from NYC and points northward, there is the chance of brief heavier snow shower or snow squall. Otherwise skies will clear with lows by morning. Lows will be in the upper teens to mid 20s.

Monday we will see sunshine with highs just in the low to mid 30s as the next fast moving cold air mass comes in and goes out. This leads us to a week where we have a northwest flow aloft and little if any moisture to tap from either the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico as they remain shut off for the time being. We have a weak cold front moving through Tuesday with some snow in New England and upstate NY. For Eastern Pa to Southern New England we will sun and some clouds with highs in the 40s. Same holds for Wednesday as another cold front moves through. Then a colder shot comes in for Thursday and Friday. A weak disturbance could bring some snow Friday and this looks weak and takes a southern route. After that we head into next weekend with warmer temperatures and eventually some rain issues. For now though we watch the last two days of meteorological winter come to an end with a quiet transition to the first days of meteorological spring which for calculation purposes starts Tuesday March 1st.
