Mostly Quiet Week Ahead Weak Fronts Mostly Dry
One of the signature patterns of the winter has been stormy periods where we have multiple systems over a 10 day to 2 week span followed by a week or so of quiet. We just came out of that active period and now we are in one of those quiet stretches. Today is the last day of meteorological winter and tomorrow March first marks the start of meteorological spring. This is the three month period where average temperatures rise the fastest which is about 1 degree ever 3 to 4 days. Sometimes reality cooperates and other times not. This week we will see temperatures running a little above average on some days and a little below on others.

Today is one of those days where we are below average and actually by a sizeable amount. Highs this afternoon will be in the low to middle 30s in most places with is about 10 degrees below where we should be this time of year. We will see a good deal of sunshine though and that at least will take the sting out of the area. March comes with an early October sun angle and that certainly helps the cause.
This cold shot is in and out quickly which sets us up for a bounce higher on Tuesday. We should see a mix of sun and clouds. We do have a cold front approaching from the northwest and that might trigger a passing rain shower Tuesday evening. Temperatures Tuesday afternoon will top out n the upper 40s to middle 50s.
The colder air behind the front isn’t much to speak of. There is a second cold front that will pass through Wednesday night and that has slightly colder air behind it for the end of the week. Wednesday we will see another day of a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the low to middle 50s.
This cold front comes through Wednesday night leaving us with a trend to “colder” temperatures on Thursday. We are looking at highs settling in the 40s. To the South of NYC the colder air arrives during the day so those highs are likely leftover from the night before. We should see some sunshine Thursday. Friday will be dry and seasonal with highs in the 40s. Of course with the weekend it is likely that the dry weather comes to an end and that clouds and rain will be part of the weekend forecast in some form.
