Pesky Low Offshore Continues to Hang Around Though Weakening

We have been dealing with this pesky little low sitting east of New Jersey and south of Long Island that has been rotating counterclockwise and showing little eastward movement. The amount of geography where the low has had impact has been relatively small and confined mostly to Southern New England and Long Island where rainfall amounts were on the order of 2 to 3 inches. The western edge of this system as far as clouds are concerned remain just inland of the coast as the satellite view shows.

The heavy rain band has been a narrow one and it has shifted to the northeast overnight but you can still see the counterclockwise turning and bands of light showers that are coming in from off the ocean. Since the low isn’t going to move today we are going to include the chance for scattered showers inland as well as the coast but it will be a matter of whether you get inside one of those bands or not.

As far as high temperatures are concerned, the areas that get the most sun will see highs in the 80s to near 90. This would include areas from Westernmost New Jersey west and south across Southern Pennsylvania into Maryland. Where clouds are more of an issue from Northern New Jersey and NYC north and east, highs will be in the mid 70s to around 80 or so.

The complication of this weak coastal low has slowed the arrival of heat and humidity for some but not others. Tuesday the low disappears so everyone should get into the very warm to hot conditions with some sunshine. Highs will reach the mid 80s to lower 90s. We will throw in the chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm.

We continue to roll along with this forecast for Wednesday through Friday with highs each day in the mid 80s to lower 90s. Sunshine and high humidity will be the rule during the day. Watch for a pop up shower or thunderstorm Wednesday and slightly higher chances for scattered thunderstorms Thursday and Friday. A cold front comes through Friday and that might bring some dew point relief and lower humidity over the weekend. However we could de dealing with another situation where the front stalls offshore making for a weaker push of dry air from the north.
