Passing Showers Tonight Sunshine Returns Wednesday
We are in a sweet spot at the moment with the storm system to the east and a cold front to the west, Sunshine dominates the weather today but some high clouds are starting to approach from the west with a cold front that will be moving through tonight. Temperatures this afternoon have reached the 70s. There really isn’t much moisture around so when the front comes through tonight we expect scattered showers to pass through. The Storm Prediction Center does not have us at risk for severe weather though they do have us in an area of possible thunderstorms. We will watch the radars later this evening to see what approaches.
SATELLITE
Showers from the cold front are in Western Pennsylvania and Western NY moving eastward. A few thunderstorms are in the mix there. This should not approach us until after the evening commute is over with. The risk time will be from 8pm tonight until 2am Wednesday.
REGIONAL RADAR
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
On to Wednesday where very early clouds give way to mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Thursday we should see some sunshine and arriving clouds. Another cold front will begin to approach. Some models are bringing clouds in with a weak wave to our south and for now we will leave any mention of rain out of the forecast Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
Friday brings this frontal system through with clouds and showers likely. Temperatures will be in the 60s to near 70. That warm front could be problematic so we will keep an eye on it in case it wants to get suppressed to the south. Then comes the weekend with dry air coming in for Saturday making for a sunny day and temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s. It will definitely be the better of the two weekend days because another front approaches on Sunday.
It looks like we will have the chance for showers and possibly a thunderstorm on Sunday though I don’t think it rains all day. Temperatures will be in the 60s but 70s will not be that far away south of that warm front. Behind it is a dry chilly air mass for Monday with sun and clouds and highs just in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Everything remains on course for a ridge of high pressure to build into the east and a trough digging to the west as May arrives. This should favor warmer than average temperatures to start the new month though the day to day details remain elusive. It would seem we could be able to put together a few warm days in this scheme before any weather fronts cut it off with the chance for showers. Also we would need to be alert for fronts in Eastern Canada that might come down and cool things down with some sort of onshore flow. We shall see but at least in a pattern like this we don’t have any severe weather events to worry about as long as the ridge holds.
