November Weather Begins
November is typically a month that usually begins on the quiet side and and then gradually revs up into more frequent rain events and, if cold enough, the occasional accumulating snow event. Some people believe that as November weather goes, so goes the winter. I don’t happen to believe that. It will be interesting to see if this is the case this November because of the drought pattern and the absolutely lack of rain events at all until recently. In the meantime the cold of this morning will gradually begin to give way as high pressure begins to move to the east. The satellite loop shows just a few clouds coming in from the west in response to warmer air pushing eastward. We will have no worse than partly sunny skies today with highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60 in most places.
Local radars are quiet and will remain so into Thursday. With clouds around tonight temperatures will be much warmer than they were last night and probably settle in the 40s to lower 50s. Then Wednesday with partly sunny skies and Thursday look for some sunshine until a cold front approaches in the evening with some showers and maybe a thunderstorm and highs on Thursday will be in the 70s.
Given the overall upper air pattern we are going to see above normal temperatures across much of the nation this weekend except in the northeast as blocking in the Atlantic forces colder air from Eastern Canada to bleed southward. Friday through the weekend look dry but it will be cold with sunshine. Highs each day will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s and lows at night will be in the 30s right through early Monday.
Given all the final data from various long range indicators are in, I will be putting together my winter forecast and releasing it sometime in the next several days.
