The noreaster continues to make progess across the Gulf states and everything is on course for storm conditions developing overnight and continuing into Tuesday morning. The worst of the wind and rain will be from the early morning hours Monday to the late evening hours. Winds along the coast will gust past 60 mph. I would not at all be surprised to see some hurricane force gusts. Heavy rains of a few inches are possible though this is drought denting so that’s a good thing. Coastal flooding at high tide is possible during Monday though the moon phase will mitigate that to some degree. Moderate coastal flooding is forecast at this point.

This morning we have a lead system moving offshore. This will keep things cloudy here today but no rain. The swirl to the southwest moving across Oklahoma is the system that is headed our way. Radars show rain offshore and today should be dry from that standpoint.

Snow and sleet could be an issue in the Northwestern Counties of New Jersey and in the Hudson Valley and Connecticut north of Route 84 and we will address this issue in a separate post shortly. In the meantime with regards to coastal flooding here is the storm surge forecast for high tide Monday evening with a large area from New Jersey to Long Island showing 2 to 3 feet above normal at high tide with some local 3 to 4 foot amounts. Again this would be considered moderate at this point.
