New Year Arrives Quietly
The weather across the area looks relatively quiet as we head into the new year. We have low pressure moving across the Great Lakes with some clouds arriving today. Temperatures will reach the upper 30s and lower 40s. With the warmer air coming in tonight there could be a brief rain or snow shower but they should be few and far between. Temperatures will hold in the lower 30s overnight. Once the warm front passes we will see sunshine for Sunday and a very nice day with highs in the upper 40s to some lower 50s.
High pressure is going to build northward into New England Sunday night which will allow cold air to drain southward. At the same time there will be overrunning precipitation coming up from the south. This sets us up for the possibility of freezing rain just inland of the coast on Monday morning. This precipitation will be light and spotty but it might be enough to leave a glaze on roadways so we will need to exercise some caution.
Tuesday sets up for a soaking rain as low pressure in the Ohio Valley redevelops just offshore. Temperatures Tuesday will be in the mild 50s and rainfall amounts should be on the order of a inch or more area wide. Colder air follows for the second half of next week.
