Monday Weather Dry Rain Tuesday

Its back to work and school and our Monday weather looks dry with some sunshine as weak high pressure builds down from Canada. However the next weather system is taking shape to the west as low pressure develops in Northeast Missouri and heads northeast to the Great Lakes. A trailing warm front from the low will set up to our south. Clouds on the satellite loop from the west will begin to increase late this afternoon and thicken up tonight. Rain should be moving in early Tuesday morning.

Radars will be quiet on Monday but begin to get busy late tonight into the first part of Tuesday. Most of the rain will set up to our north so it is possible that southern areas from Southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania will be out of the rain during Monday afternoon and it will move north of New York City Monday evening. There will be no ice or snow issues with this system at all as it will be too warm. Rain amounts should be in the half to three quarters of an inch range with much less South of New York City.

The cold front that moves through Wednesday morning might have very little precipitation with it. It will however stall to our south and a wave will develop on that front and move northeastward. Precipitation will move in Wednesday night and continue into Thursday morning. Cold air will be coming back at the same time so it will basically be a race between the two that will determine whether we will see rain that changes to snow before it ends Thursday morning. If cold air arrives faster than it could be more snow than anything else especially away from the coast.  The new NAM model would support the idea of the rain getting here faster and cold air not getting here in time.

However we will be trying to decipher this puzzle over the next few days. Usually the cold air winds up waiting until the low goes by so timing and speed here are going to be key to the outcome.
