We start off our Tuesday with sunshine and chillier temperatures as colder air came down last night. While chilly it is by no means cold. Today’s temperatures will be affected by clouds and an ocean wind to some degree so that should hold highs in the 40s along the coast though some 50s could occur in locations inland and west. The satellite loop shows clouds firing up to the west and those should start moving in here during this afternoon.

The radars are not busy at the the moment but I look for them to fill in to the west later this afternoon and evening as the next weather system begins its approach. No showers should be a threat here through this evening. The first rains will arrive in Western New Jersey and interiror southeast New York before midnight and over New York City and Long Island after midnight. Temperatures tonight will actually rise through the 50s and into the 50s.

A strong cold front moves through here Wednesday morning with showers that should end from west to east during the morning (between 7am-10am) followed by some developing afternoon sunshine. Temperatures will be in the 50s to near 60 early and then drop into the 40s by late afternoon and early evening. Colder weather arrives Wednesday night with lows in the 20s to near 30. Thursday we should see sunshine giving way to some late day arriving clouds with highs just in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Attention then shifts to a coastal low that will develop on Friday. Weather models shifted northward in the middle runs overnight and the Euro model also moved northwestward.

Now before you get worked up over this map I should point out a few things. First off it is early March. The sun angle is getting higher every day. The sun angle is the same now as it is in late September. It makes it much harder for snow to accumulate during the daytime especially on road surfaces. Second, despite the ominous look of this map up through Friday afternoon..if it is right..not much snow will have accumulated. It becomes a question of timing. Thirdly, we don’t know yet if this northward shift is something that becomes a trend. We will watch for new weather models as they arrive today.
