Watches Warnings Everywhere
No doubt this is going to be one big storm. 2 to 3 inches of rain everywhere, winds along the coast easily gusting to 50-60 mph or more, coastal flooding, and a heavy wet snow that gets into the mix here during the day Friday into Friday night. Snow is always tough to figure but the upper air dynamics here are impressive to say the least and no doubt that some one is going to get clobbered with snow epecially in elevation driven areas where you could see valleys getting a coating to an inch and then head above 1000 ft and you have a foot. Of course the further north and west you go the better chance you have of a white out. This is going to be a heavy wet snow that is likely to stick rather quickly, big flakes etc etc. Be advised that the coast is subject to a surprise if weather models underdo the strength of dynamic cooling.
The storm is beginning to crank up as low pressure heads into the Ohio Valley. Clouds will be increasing all day. The regional radar below is beginning to show the lead area of rain moving into view and that should be arriving from west to east later this afternoon into this evening. Then it is rain heavy at times overnight into Friday as low pressure redevelops off the Delaware coast and explodes into a major storm. Winds will begin cranking to the east and then gradually strong winds spread westward. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph along the coast will be common Friday into Friday night.

As far as the snow is concerned during Friday morning snow will overtake inland areas and then change over down to the coast after midday. Timing this is very difficult. We are going to be at the mercy of the dynamic cooling and how efficient it is (its never efficient). This is also a situation where cold air drives southward into New Jersey while warm air sweeps inland from the northeast..kind of an upside down set up where it snows less in New England and more west and south.

All of this continues in Friday night and then precipitation winds down. Winds will still be strong and gusty into Saturday and sky conditions will finally begin to improve. Temperatures will be in the 50s today and 30s/40s Friday into Friday night. Where it snows it drops to the low and middle 30s…where it doesn’t closer to 40. Saturday it will be in the 40s. Sunday is looking good with sunshine.
