Leftover Clouds & Sun Today Dry Thursday Next Storm Arrives Saturday

We are still dealing with a slow moving upper air storm system over the Northeast and that is creating some cloud cover but along the coastal plain at least there are breaks of sunshine. The upper low was responsible for a rather substantial snowfall up and down the Appalachians. Once it moves northeast into New England later today, clouds should start to decrease overall. Temperatures today will be in the chilly side with highs just in the low to mid 40s. The wind will still be busy at times putting a bit of a bite into the air.

There are a few leftover precipitation echoes showing up on the regional and local radar. These areas are producing very light precipitation or the precipitation is evaporating before it reaches the ground.

Skies should clear out tonight with most lows in the 20s except for lower 30s in the warmer urban areas. Thursday we should see a bit of temperature rebound with sunshine for most of the day. Highs will reach the mid 40s to near 50 in some places.

The next storm system will be revving up as clouds increase during the day Friday. A weak front stalls to our south and another storm heads across the Gulf States and spreads rain northward up the east side of the Appalachians.

The timing of the phasing makes for an interesting scenario as both streams of the upper air phase together. The latest NAM shows a rather dynamic looking upper air causing a storm to intensify off the New Jersey coast and leading to a change to snow across Southern NY and Southern New England.

At least there will be rain out of this on the order of another 1 to 2 inches of liquid. The low track to the south means no severe weather but Saturday will be a raw rainy day at the very least with temperatures just in the 40s and perhaps just in the 30s north and west of the coast. We will evaluate models this afternoon to see if others have a similar idea. Otherwise it should move away later Satuday and Sunday should be dry and cold.
