Cold Front Arrives Thursday With Thunderstorms

We have arrived to Labor Day marking the end of the summer vacation season and the beginning of mine. Typically I like to take off in the days following Labor Day when beaches tend to be empty. It will be a good strategy this week with hot temperatures forecast into Thursday. Temperatures will make a run for 90 degrees this afternoon. Any shower or thunderstorm activity over the next several days will be few and far between,

EASTERN SATELLITE

Whenever you are in an air mass like this at this time of year, the lengthening nights creates low clouds that develop along coastal areas and spread inland. You can see the outline of the low clouds on the satellite above. These clouds usually tend to burn off during the morning hours. Radars are nice and quiet this morning and we are not expecting much from them today.

REGIONAL RADAR

The outlook for the next 3 days is pretty simple. Disgusting heat humidity for Tuesday with highs 90 to 95. More of the same Wednesday with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. There is a small chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm each day. Thursday we see the next cold front arriving with some late day thunderstorms. Highs will reach the upper 80s and lower 90s ahead of it.

This is going to be another cold front that stalls out to our south and sets up an onshore flow. This time however low pressure will be coming out of the Southern Plains and heading into the Great Lakes next weekend which puts us at a good chance for seeing clouds showers and some heavier downpours. Cooler air with an onshore flow will be here for Friday and Saturday which puts an end to the disgusting heat humidity run. The upper ridge in the Eastern US finally breaks down enough to allow weather systems and weather fronts to arrive with more frequency. Part of that ridge will be off the East Coast will play a role in the ultimate track of Tropical Storm Florence. We will have more on that later today.
