JOESTRADAMUS Weekend Warm Saturday Backdoor Front Issues
Once the rains we are experiencing now move out of the way on Wednesday weather conditions will improve and warmer temperatures are headed our way beginning on Thursday and lasting into Saturday. Saturday is looking to be a very warm day with highs in many areas reaching the 80s. This is the easy part of the weekend forecast but there is a complication for Sunday thanks to a backdoor cold front. This time of year backdoor fronts are problematic. We call them backdoor fronts because unlike most fronts which come in from the west, this one drops down from the north or northeast from Southeastern Canada and New England. The result is a wind shift to the northeast off the cold ocean and a very annoying marine layer. You can go from 80 to 50 in a very short period of time.

Take a look at the GFS forecast 2pm temperatures for Saturday and Sunday and notice the big difference. 80s are prevalent everywhere on Saturday but that backdoor pushes cooler air as far south as Maryland on Sunday. Temperatures will be 20 degrees cooler on Sunday with highs just in the 60s.

This is what it looks like on the surface on Sunday. The big question will be cloud cover and how much of it will we have. It does not appear we will have showers to deal with at least through the daytime Sunday. That storm in Missouri is heading for the Great Lakes and it does set us up for some showers and thunderstorms here late next Monday or Monday night.
