Joe’s Final Call Snow Forecast Tuesday 01292019

I did a little bit of tweaking to the numbers and the borders for each inch of snow (it’s that kind of winter). Along the coast there are two things to watch for. First off Tuesday morning there could be a little drizzle that might freeze on surfaces. It is a small chance but a chance. The other is a change to snow before it ends which leaves a coating of snow. I don’t think the cold air gets in fast enough along the coast. Later on the Tuesday look for rain with snow inland (west and north of Route 287 in New Jersey and in the Hudson Valley). Then it goes to all snow from west to east late in the afternoon and evening and it should all be done before midnight. West of the New Jersey Pennsylvania state line it will be mostly snow that ends probably by about 8pm or so.

This is nothing more than an arctic front. There isn’t much to it. It is literally a stick of precipitation and moves in and then moves out. Temperatures Tuesday will be in the 30s inland and reach 40 or so at the coast before dropping below 32 in the evening. Icing will develop overnight since by Wednesday morning we will be in the teens to low 20s.

EASTERN SATELLITE

REGIONAL RADAR

storm free

There are still high clouds around going into this evening thanks to the storm out to the east that is moving away. Radars are quiet here and will remain so much of the night.

BITTER COLD ARRIVES WEDNESDAY CHANCE FOR A SNOW SQUALL EARLY AFTERNOON

There is a second front that comes in Wednesday afternoon to usher in the bitter cold air and that will probably have a snow squall or two with it. A quick whitening of the ground is possible in some scattered areas. Then down we go to the single digits to below zero Thursday morning.

Thursday’s highs will only be in the low to mid teens with lots of ineffective sunshine. The core of the cold air moves out Thursday night and Friday morning we should be down in the single digits. We should recover into the 20s on Friday with arriving clouds. Warmer air could trigger an area of snow to the west Friday. It will be a weak area of snow that might fall apart before it gets here. Perhaps it holds together but it won’t do much. Then it is slowly warming over the weekend with rain possible early next week that doesn’t even come with a rain or an ice pellet at the start.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
