Hurricane Matthew Georgia Carolinas
Hurricane Matthew Georgia Carolinas
Heavy Rains Spreading Inland
Strong Winds Along The Coast
Hurricane Matthew is continuing to move northward as heavy rains are showing up as far north as inland North Carolina. The hurricane is changing character somewhat as the shield of heavy rains shifts over to the west side of the hurricane’s center which remains over the ocean. The band of strong winds is also spreading further inland from the coast. To the south of the center, weather seems to be diminishing and improving across Northeastern Florida. While all this is going on you can see the approaching front to the west with a few showers being generated from that.
Skies meanwhile are clear here for now but overnight clouds will be moving in from the south. While it is clear temperatures in cold spots will drop into the 40s and then rise back into the 50s once clouds move in. Lows everywhere else will be in the 50s.
Local radars are quiet however we are seeing the Philadelphia radar showing a little activity to the west in Pennsylvania, while the Washington DC Radar the northern edge of some tropical moisture is developing across Southern Virginia. The rains from Hurricane Matthew are pushing now into North Carolina.
On Saturday look for clouds to increase and thicken up and there could be some showers moving through late in the day into Saturday night. Some models are enhancing some of the showers in response to Hurricane Matthew possibly pushing a little further north off the North Carolina Coast. I’m not sure how much to believe with this. Some models want to bring some light rain showers into Southern New Jersey and Southeast Pennsylvania Saturday morning. I think that for now we should be dry into the afternoon. Rainfall amounts should be light in most areas and any tropical enhanced rains should stay mostly south and east of the coast.
Weather conditions will improve for Sunday with sunshine and clouds. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s. Monday Columbus Day we will see sunshine and cool conditions with highs in the low to mid 60s. The first half of next week will be dry and cool. No major rain is forecast for all of next week as the pattern remains very dry.
