Hurricane Harvey Flooding Texas Weather NY NJ Calm

It is normal in the atmosphere to see extremes. On the one hand we have Hurricane Harvey now inland produciing strong winds and torrential rains. Part of the circulation remains over water and this will be the case for the next many days which means very very slow weakening of the wind field and torrential rains measured in feet. On the other side of the equation is our weather which is delightful, dry & sunny as high pressure builds strongly to our north and will pretty much dictate the weather through the first part of the new week. Sunshine, low humidity and temperatures in the 70s will be story for the rest of the afternoon.

Radars here are silent and will remain so through Monday. Other than a few passing clouds, skies will be clear much of the time. Tonight under clear skies and light winds, most lows will be in the 50s to lower 60s but there will be a few 40s in the cooler valleys north and northwest of the coast. Sunday looks like another day of sunshine with highs in the 70s.

Eventually the high will push into New England and the further east which allows the flow to become more onshore beginning on Monday. This might start to put a few clouds into the mix with highs in the 70s.

GFS MODEL FORECAST SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY CLICK TO ANIMATE

Tuesday we will have an onshore flow and low pressure (possibly tropical?) moving northeastward along the Southeast coast to North Carolina. All weather models continue with the idea of an intensifying system possibly tropical or subtropical in nature moving just to our south and east. This will probably put us in clouds with the western edge of the rain just offshore on Tuesday. This looks a lot like something in the winter time where we are struggling whether to put snow in the forecast or not. For now we will go with clouds and an northeast wind and temperatures just into the 70s. We will have more on this later today in our look at the tropics.
