Hot Humid Start To Week But Lower Humidity Coming Late Week

A new week gets underway and it is going to certainly be a hot one day with plenty of sunshine. The launching pad this morning is set with temperatures bottoming in the low to mid 70s in most places. We are looking at highs this afternoon in the middle 90s and even a few upper 90s are on the table. The humidity will be high but we still don’t have any mechanism to trigger off thunderstorms. A heat advisory is up from Northeast New Jersey to Southern New England.

Other than the usual morning low clouds that are around on days like this we see nothing but clear skies on the satellite with the exception of Northern New England where clouds and some showers are going to be moving through and keeping things cooler there. Once again as far as any late afternoon shower or thunderstorms popping up they will be isolated in nature and most of you won’t see a thing.

Another warm humid night follows with most lows in the 70s. Tuesday winds will be more southwest than west and that will make for another hot humid day though there might be a few more clouds around and the wind direction could shave off a degree or two from the highs. We will still reach the low and middle 90s. A cold front will approach and  trigger off some late day scattered thunderstorms.

The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk for severe weather Tuesday from Northeast Virginia northeastward to Maine.  However I’m not all that impressed with this set up. We could see SPC take things down a notch later today. The upper trough seems to lag back to the northwest late Tuesday and while that might mean a few scattered cells inland, it may not do much along the coast.

Some dew point relief is likely beginning Wednesday afternoon and lasting into the weekend but weather models have backed off somewhat from what they were showing a few day ago. It will still be very warm to borderline hot Wednesday with some sunshine. Highs will be in the mid 80s to near or just over 90 degrees and the same holds for Thursday.

With less of a push from the northern jet stream we are seeing our Tuesday weather front stall out and a wave does move along it. This could bring clouds and showers along about Friday but there is some uncertainty regarding how far north so the showers get, or do they tend to slide across Virginia to Southern New Jersey and then exit.  We might see another chance later on Sunday as a lingering trough swings into the Eastern US. Temperatures Friday and into the weekend will be impacted by clouds and temperatures. If we wind up with clouds all day on Friday, it could be much like last Friday where it doesn’t get out of the 70s. If I had to make an early stab at this, Saturday will be better than Sunday.
