High Wind Warning Wind Advisories Posted Virginia to New England

We have seen a number of wind events this month so why not finish the month with probably the strongest of them all. Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings cover much of the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states. The high wind warning area covers almost all of New Jersey southwest to Maryland and Delaware. Also an area in the upper Hudson Valley surrounding Albany is also under a high wind warnings.

The worst of it will come late this afternoon into this evening as a storm strengthens to the northeast and a strong upper trough moves through creating an alignment with strong winds aloft and surface winds which allows those upper air winds to mix down to the surface creating strong wind gusts of 50 mph or more.

This is going to be a rather long duration high wind event with wind gusts averaging 40 mph or more starting around 3 or 4pm and lasting until 2 or 3am Saturday. After that winds will start to ease but it will still be gusting 20 to 30 mph by 7am Saturday. In the meantime the gradient is tightening up as low pressure to the northeast is strengthening. We have some leftover clouds around and there will also be additional instability from developing clouds and a few scattered showers thanks to that upper trough moving through.

Temperatures today are starting out warm leftover from the last two days of warm weather. Highs today however will be mostly in the 60s and then we are headed south to the upper 30s and lower 40s by Saturday morning. Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days but we will also see sunshine give way to arriving clouds. Highs will be in the 60s. We have a warm front going by Saturday night with clouds and maybe a quick shower or downpour during the overnight. Sunday we are looking for a mix of sun and clouds and it will be warm with temperatures in the 70s to near 80.

Sunday brings a weak cold front that will stall out overhead but other than clouds and perhaps the outside chance for a passing brief shower, it should be dry. Next week starts off with another warm front cold front combination with clouds for Monday and the chance for showers later in the day. Unsettled weather will be with us for the first half of next week.
