It is pretty clear now that Hermine has turned to the northwest as it approaches 40 degrees north. The storm did move an extra 200 miles to the east before making the turn and now has moved a few extra miles north before hooking to the northwest. Clouds have been spreading back westward. Rains remain offshore for now as do gale force winds but those winds and rains will probably get close to or over the East End of Long Island and Connecticut later today. In fact radar shows the rain almost touching the east end near Montauk.
We are waiting for the model model run cycle to run its course. Overnight models hooked this back to the west to just south of Long Island by Wednesday as the storm weakens over time. Below are the latest HRRR model for 2pm Tuesday FWIW. Also the NAM model for the same timeframe
Over time with the storm forecast to weaken, it would seem to me that the Tropical Storm Warnings will eventually and finally come down. However the areas under a warning there could be a brief period of wind and rain to contend with. Eventually the low will fill completely by the end of the week.
The impact on the beaches and the ocean will continue all week with dangerous rip currents, higher than normal tides and beach erosion.
