Heavy Rains Moving Northeast Severe Weather Risks Lower for Late Today
Overnight we saw the warm front we talked about yesterday set up further south than advertised and that changed the way things are playing out today. Ahead of the warm front heavy rains developed and they basically lined up along the immediate coast to just north of NYC and points southward to Southeastern Pennsylvania. Radar shows these areas are moving along but they are going to take their time getting out of the way. Lots of clouds dominate most of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England and that will likely impact temperatures today keeping them cooler than advertised yesterday.

The other change is in regards to the severe weather risk for late this afternoon and tonight. With the warm front further south, the severe weather risk has lessened and is confined to areas from southernmost New Jersey to Eastern Pennsylvania (except the northeast) and points southward into Virginia where the risk is in the slight category.
Due to the warm front being further south, we might see some scattered showers or thunderstorms this evening as the front goes by but probably not severe weather. Temperatures today should make it back into the 70s this afternoon. Once the front passes late tonight weather conditions should improve as skies partially clear out. Lows Monday morning will be in the 60s.
Monday will be a warm day with sunshine. Highs will be in the 80s. Then we turn our attention to a small but strong upper air disturbance that will move rapidly southeastward from the Wisconsin and then to the New Jersey/Delaware coast. This is going to be a fast moving complex of thunderstorms that will move through sometime Tuesday morning. We will be watching the track in case it shifts a little further north or south. This will produce a quick period of heavy rain and thunderstorms when it goes by along with some gusty winds. The highest risk will be south of NYC to DCA/BWI and we will be narrowing it down on Monday. Otherwise areas surrounding this small complex will see clouds and sun with highs in the 80s Tuesday. We will continue to roll that along for Wednesday. Thursday sees the chance for some scattered thunderstorms with an upper trough going by. Friday will be the one day this week where it will be very warm and humid with a stronger cold front and a higher chance for severe weather late in the day. Highs Friday will be in the mid to upper 80s. Behind the front we continue to see it turning much cooler and dry for Father’s Day weekend.
