Heat Humidity Take Break A Break Today But

Humidity And Shower Chances Week Ahead

The hot and humid weather of the last four days has come to an end and we are getting a bit of a humidity break today. Across South Jersey overnight showers and thunderstorms are pulling away to the east and offshore shore.  They are not moving northward. Overall most of the area will see partly sunny to mostly sunny skies. Highs this afternoon will be in the reasonable low 80s and it will be much more comfortable than it has been in quite a while.

Showers on the radar to the south across Southern New Jersey down to Delaware are leftover from last night’s cold front. The front itself should edge a little further south before stalling out later today.

The humidity break will be short lived as the high building into New England today moves quickly offshore. Skies will be mainly clear tonight with most lows in the 60s. Monday is likely to bring about an increase in cloud cover and also the increase chance that we could start to see some showers move up from the south.

The southerly flow aloft extends southward into the Eastern Gulf of Mexico where we will likely see Tropical Storm Fred reform sometime today. Tropical moisture is likely to be on a feed northeastward all week though we aren’t talking here about a continuous rain. Most of the showers Monday dry up as they come into the dry air but starting Tuesday as humidity levels rise, we will start to see a higher chance for downpours each day this week. Highs Monday will be just into the 80s and most highs this week Tuesday through Friday will be the low to middle 80s with nighttime lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

As far as Fred is concerned, it will likely restrengthen to a tropical storm later today as it heads northward for a landfall along the Gulf Coast Monday night. It is highly unlikely that Fred strengthens beyond a mid level tropical storm before coming ashore somewhere near Mobile Alabama. As far as Tropical Storm Grace is concerned that is a long way off and is likely to take a track similar to Tropical Storm Fred.

Grace will likely track across or very close to the big islands of the Greater Antillies so that will likely distort and weaken the tropical storm until it gets far enough west and. like Fred, what is left is of it at that point is a big question mark.
