Tropical Storm Fred Remnants to Bring Showery Rains Beginning Tuesday
We enjoyed a decent Sunday of weather with lower humidity and sunshine. We are going to hold on to the dry air for a little while longer before weather conditions deteriorate. Tonight skies should be mainly clear though some high clouds will come into the mix. Most lows will be in the 60s with the humidity remaining rather reasonable.

Radars are nice and quiet but the old frontal boundary is stalled out across Southern Virginia. To the south of that front we have tropical conditions and the radars in Virginia and North Carolina are busy this evening with showers and thunderstorms but the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic remain quiet for now.
Monday will start with some sun but clouds will increase as the day wears on. The old stalled front starts to move northward as a warm front. Some showers with that could move into Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania Monday night but they should hold back for most of the day. Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England highs will be in the lower 80s.
Meanwhile Tropical Storm Fred is getting a little better organized but remains a low end tropical storm with winds of 45 mph. Rain is the bigger story here from Fred as it makes landfall Monday evening somewhere in the Western Florida Panhandle or the Alabama coast.
The eventual remnant low will make its way northeastward up the Appalachians and that will bring showery rains up the coast. Most of the rain though will be inland at least initially. Rains could shift eastward to the coast Tuesday night or Wednesday. Very little rain is forecast into Wednesday from Western New Jersey east but inland rains of a couple of inches are possible through Wednesday evening.
Humid conditions will rule Tuesday through the rest of the week and probably into next weekend. The flow aloft is south southwest for the early part of the week and then gradually becomes more southwest middle and late week. Timing of showers will be the chore of the week for forecasters.
Weather models show the bands coming in waves so there will be some rain free periods in between. We will zero in on the timing of these waves Monday. In the meantime enjoy the relatively comfortable conditions in the area tonight into Monday.
