Gloom And Doom Sunday Patchy Rain Around, Warmer Week Ahead

We are in the world of doom and gloom on this Sunday. Overnight clouds and moisture on an east wind has brought patchy light rain inland from the east while low pressure sits off the the North Carolina coast. The satellite shows the bright white higher cloud  tops in an east west arc and it is moving northward at least for now. The radar shows the areas separate from each other. The system to the south has a small window of opportunity today to strengthen to a subtropical system before upper air winds make it unfavorable. It makes no difference in the outlook for today into tonight. Rainfall amounts will be nothing special here. Most areas get less than a quarter inch and many areas get less than a tenth of an inch.

Short range models are not picking up on the light stuff already inland. We will leave that as an ongoing risk today that at times you will see patchy light rain or drizzle. The  rain to the south will try and move northward but it seems that it will shift east in time to miss all but coastal areas from Delmarva to Long Island. Temperatures today will be in the 60s.

The good news is that the onshore flow is going to break down Monday into Tuesday but it will take its time doing so. Look for lots of clouds and some patchy light rain or drizzle overnight. Some areas might see that linger into Monday morning. Monday, Columbus Day overall will be a cloudy day. Skies might try and brighten up inland. Most highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Warmer temperatures begin Tuesday and last through the rest of the week. Also it will be rain free for the rest of the week as well as the next cold front is not due to arrive until Saturday. Tuesday sees high pressure move over head so the onshore flow is done and we will see partly to mostly sunny skies develop with highs in the 70s. As the week progresses we will see highs Wednesday and Thursday in the mid 70s to near 80 and upper 70s and lower 80s Thursday and Friday. Each day will be no worse than partly sunny.  Next Saturday brings a chance for showers followed by drier cooler air behind it and a new weather pattern where weather systems move through every couple of days.
