Frigid Friday Snow Saturday Frigid New Year
Frigid Friday Snow Saturday Frigid New Year
We are going to see another frigid night after and exceptionally cold day. Temperatures today across much of the area did not get out of the teens! That is really amazing and shows you just how cold this air mass is. Believe it not another even colder air mass is coming in for Sunday through at least Tuesday of next week. In between we have the chance for some snow Saturday and the map above is my snow forecast map which I have not changed since yesterday. Though some of the late afternoon weather models were a tad more aggressive with snow amounts it was not enough for me to adjust my forecast so we will leave it at this for now.
Skies are mainly clear and we do have a strong gusty wind continuing this evening which is keeping temperatures tightly clustered. We should be clear all night and if winds drop off that will at least make it feel a bit better as morning lows will drop to zero to 10 above in most areas.
SATELLITE LOOP
REGIONAL RADAR
Friday we will see some sunshine and clouds. A weak upper air disturbance could produce a few widely scattered snow showers. At least temperatures should break 20 and highs should reach 20 to 25 in most places.
RGEM MODEL FORECAST SNOW AMOUNTS
Saturday brings a fast moving system and snow is likely for a 6 to 8 hour period from mid morning to mid evening. With temperatures in the lower 20s and snow rations of at least 15-1 or higher, we could put down a powder couple of inches in some places. I think the best chance for that will be along the New Jersey shore and Central and Eastern Long Island. Then get ready for another cold air mass and yes it is actually colder than the one we are in now!
FRIGID MONDAY MORNING FORECAST LOWS
New Years Eve will be brutal with strong gusty winds and temperatures in the teens. When the ball drops at midnight temperatures will be somewhere between 5 and 15 and by morning it could drop to below zero in areas just inland of the coast with single digits elsewhere and Monday’s highs will be just in the teens. We will do it all over again on Tuesday but with less wind.
