Freezing Rain Advisory NW NJ
Freezing Rain Advisory NW NJ
Winter Weather Advisory NE Pennsylvania
We are seeing the arrival of precipitation this morning on both the satellite and radar loops as low pressure begins to make its way across Northern Ohio & into Western NY State later today. Freezing rain and some sleet and wet snow north and west of the coast are likely to create a few slick spots this morning along and north of Route 84. Higher elevations could get a slushy inch or so on grassy surfaces and that should just about do it before rain takes over.
There are pockets of cold air that like across Northeast Pennsylvania, the Hudson Valley and NW New Jersey this morning as high pressure is wedging down from New England. Surface temperatures are in the mid 30s. It is still cold aloft so as that precipitation moves in look for a wintry mix to develop in those areas this morning before ultimately going over to rain.
Radars are beginning to load up but the bulk of this is going to pass north of RT 195 in New Jersey as well as Route 76 in Pennsylvania. Later this afternoon as the low redevelops over Long Island we will see a convective response to falling pressures and a band of moderate to heavy rain should develop across the entire region from Southern New Jersey & Pennsylvania to Southern New England.
Rainfall forecast amounts on weather models remain bullish across drought areas on the order of 1 to 2 inches from Central NJ northward so we remain optimistic that this will pan out.
Friday looks dry and cool with highs in the 50s and a mix of sun and clouds. Saturday looks nice with some sunshine and highs in the 60s before the next cold front approaches and moves through on Sunday with the chance for showers. This marks the first time since last spring that we are seeing two widespread rain events in less than a week.
