Fog Low Clouds Stubborn Warm Today Wednesday

We have low clouds and fog this morning and various Dense Fog Advisories around this morning. This is going to be the battle today regarding whether the sun can cut through these low clouds or not. This will determine how warm it gets this afternoon. With all day sun this would be a day with temperatures into the 70s just about everywhere. The low clouds however are likely to be stubborn and this will hold temperatures back somewhat especially along coastal locations. Highs in general will be in the mid 60s to lower 70s except in the 50s along the coast. You can see the stripe of clouds along the coast on the satellite picture below. The clouds to the north are producing showers well north in upstate NY. There are no shower issues here either today or Wednesday.

Going forward we will have a cold front move through here Wednesday night and it will be back to earth on Thursday with a northeast wind and colder air. There is likely to be some precipitation late in the day as the first in a series of waves of low pressure. It may be cold enough inland for some freezing rain or sleet and even some wet snow can’t be ruled out. This is not a big deal in terms of the amount of precipitation.

Friday and the weekend we will see a series of waves of low pressure coming in from the southwest and we should see 2 inch plus rain amounts through the period. It doesn’t rain every minute and the rain will come in waves. Sunday probably looks like the one day that will be a complete washout. Long range the pattern goes colder and blocky and we will address the consequences of this later today when JOESTRADAMUS looks at the long range.
