Flash Flood Watch New Jersey Updated
Flash Flood Watch New Jersey Updated
We have a new Flash Flood Watch for New Jersey with some changes. The northeastern counties are no longer under a Flash Flood Watch nor is the Hudson Valley, NYC, & Long Island. The new area shifts the watch westward to the Northwestern counties and then continues southward.
...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A * FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL NEW JERSEY... NORTHERN NEW JERSEY AND NORTHWEST NEW JERSEY...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN CENTRAL NEW JERSEY...MERCER. IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY...MIDDLESEX...MORRIS...SOMERSET...SUSSEX AND WARREN. IN NORTHWEST NEW JERSEY...HUNTERDON. * THROUGH MONDAY EVENING * SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE PRODUCED SEVERAL ROUNDS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN ACROSS A GOOD PORTION OF THE WATCH AREA. RAINFALL TOTALS LOCALLY OF FOUR TO AROUND SIX INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS. A FEW ADDITIONAL ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY THROUGH TOMORROW EVENING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL FROM THUNDERSTORMS COULD LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING ESPECIALLY IN AREAS THAT HAVE RECEIVED THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL. A LULL IN THE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE WILL LIKELY OCCUR OVERNIGHT. * ADDITONAL RAINFALL TOTALS WILL VARY OVER SHORT DISTANCES. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR MANY LOCATIONS TO SEE OVER ONE INCH OF NEW RAINFALL THROUGH TOMORROW EVENING. LOCALIZED ADDITONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF A FEW INCHES CAN NOT BE RULED OUT.
Right now based on radars much of the rain and heavy downpours have shifted northward however weather models are showing more downpours developing overnight. The NAM 4KM model worked the best this morning showing much of the downpours would be north and not much south and this played out pretty well so we are going to stick with that model for now.
The NAM 4KM model develops some heavy downpours later this evening across parts of the Norhern New Jersey and the map above is for 1am Monday which would suggest some heavy rains going on in the already saturated areas of Northern New Jersey. The rainfall map below shows additional rainfall forecast between now and Monday morning. Patches of 3 to 4 inches of additional rain are being indicated.
FLASH FLOOD WATCH
DROUGHT BUSTING RAINS
Rainfall totals through 6pm from this weekend are increasing across much of Northern New Jersey. Some areas in Middlesex and Somerset counties received 6 to 8 inches of rain so far! Other areas in Northern New Jersey and the Hudson Valley have seen 2 to 4 inches. If the rains tonight into Monday play out some additional serious flooding could result.
Across Connecticut especially in the northwestern quarter .50 to 1 inch of rain has fallen so far. Just east of New York City and Long Island the rain has been non existent though some downpours are currently moving across parts of Long Island.
