FLASH FLOOD & FLOOD WATCHES CENTRAL NEW JERSEY TO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND
INCLUDING NYC, HUDSON VALLEY LONG ISLAND & CONNECTICUT
We begin today waiting for a storm system to the west to move eastward as clouds start to increase from the west. We don’t expect any rain to come in until mid or late afternoon and at that point we will see rain become heavy at times going into this evening rush hour commute. This is going to be a rather fast rain event and if everything moves along, the bulk of the rain will be done by midnight or shortly after that. Temperatures today will reach into the 50s and there will be a wind off the ocean making for rather gloomy conditions once clouds increase and thicken up.
Dry air from high pressure to the northeast is holding on a bit longer this morning as skies stayed clear for most of the night. But now we are seeing clouds advancing rapidly from the west and they should increase rapidly.

Regional radar is showing rain to the west in Western Pennsylvania and showers that are developing to the southwest across the Washington DC Baltimore are to the Delmarva peninsula. Rains are moving to the northeast.

Between 6pm and 11pm we will see some bands of very heavy downpours and possibly one or two thunderstorms could be in the mix. After that during the early morning hours there could a few more passing showers but this should all long gone by daybreak. Then cold air arrives on strengthening northwest winds and some developing sunshine. Wind gusts Saturday will reach 30 mph or more at times especially along the coast and temperatures will settle and stay in the 40s all day long and by Sunday morning under clear skies we will be in the 20s almost everywhere except for perhaps the warmerst urban centers which will be in the lower 30s. Sunday will be nice and sunny but it will be cold with highs just in the 40s. At least the bulk of the weekend will be dry.
Monday we will see sunshine giving way to arriving clouds as the next storm system revs up and that will bring a chilly rain here next Tuesday with highs both days in the 40s. This storm will produce significant snows to the interior Northeast in elevation driven areas but this will not be an issue here. Another shot of cold air follows on Wednesday.
