First Freeze Watches Posted Tuesday Night Into Wednesday Morning
They are a little late in coming and you can thank the warm October for that. The first freeze watches are posted for inland areas Tuesday night into Wednesday morning which will be the first of several cold nights ahead. Wednesday night into Thursday morning looks to be colder so other areas will join the party.
Warmer urban locations will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s but inland areas will likely see temperatures closer to freezing or even below. It is time to take the tender plants indoors. Meanwhile we had a nice Monday with temperatures that topped in the upper 50s and lower 60s. We are headed down to the upper 30s and lower 40s tonight with clear skies to start but clouds will start coming in later tonight into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday brings another cold front through the area. The front is weak so we will see clouds and less sun than today. Temperatures will be lower with highs in the low to mid 50s. There could be a few widely scattered sprinkles or showers as the front goes by but most of you won’t see much if anything at all. Then colder air takes over setting up for a possible freeze inland Wednesday morning. Lows will be in the upper 20s in coldest spots inland. Warmer urban centers and the coast will be in the upper 30s to near 40.
Wednesday will be a chilly autumn day with sunshine and a bit of a breeze. Highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 50s and then we head down to another round of sub 32 degree weather inland and mid to upper 30s coast and warmer urban areas by Thursday morning.
Thursday will be the coldest day of the autumn season so far with lots of high clouds taking highs just to the 40s to at best around or just over 50 degrees. The first of two waves of low pressure moving through the deep south and then off the Southeast Coast will pass to the southeast. The NAM model brings rain as far north as Southern New Jersey Thursday afternoon and yes that is snow in the mountains of West Virginia and Western Virginia!
The other models are weaker and further south which would mean no issue at all anywhere other than clouds. The NAM may be overdoing it a little here and we expect it to come into what the others are doing. Either way it is gone Thursday night as skies clear and lows will be in the upper 20s in cold spots and 30s to near 40 everywhere else. We set up for a little temperature bounce higher on Friday with highs back into the 50s. We remain optimistic for the weekend for now though the European model does develop the second southern wave into a robust ocean storm keeping it mostly offshore over the weekend. We will keep our eyes on this but Saturday for sure looks okay and Sunday should be good to assuming the low is weaker and further east.
