Fall Cleanup Weather: Gusty Winds Continue This Afternoon

Fall Cleanup Weather: Gusty Winds Continue This Afternoon

Winds continue to be rather strong and gusty for this afternoon and Gale Warnings remain in effect for the coastal waters. Some wind gusts will exceed 30 mph which will not only add a nice briskness to the air but it will also bring down lots of leaves so fall cleanup is probably the biggest chore of the weekend to attack. No rain in the forecast, just some patchy clouds for the rest of the day with temperatures in the 40s.

Winds will be dropping off tonight slowly and skies will be clear. The core of the cold air mass will be moving overhead tonight will be bottoming out in the 30s in most places and while the wind is up there will be a touch of wind chill factor in the air as well. Sunday is shaping up to be a fine day with less wind and sunshine and highs in the middle to upper 50s everywhere.

The work week ahead will be warmer than normal however there is a problem. The big high is going to go by to our north and strengthen. This will create an onshore flow which will keep temperatures lower than they otherwise would be.

Between the wind off the ocean and clouds beginning on Tuesday we will probably see temperatures confined to the upper 50s and lower 60s. The next cold front wont’t arrive until Thursday morning with some showers. This will be followed by dry air and cooler air for Friday. It will also begin what will be the longer term pattern change process that is going to get underway later this week.

With regards to the pattern change it appears that it will be a setup that will bring temperatures to normal or perhaps a little below. The specifics are not yet possible to work out with what this will mean day to day. We have been saying in our longer term outlooks that this all hinges on the vortex splitting and reforming in Canada which appears to be the case. We will update the long range models in a JOESTRADAMUS post this afternoon.
