Dry Tonight More Rain Snow Tuesday

After last nights shot of rain and snow we have seen quite a bit of improvement in terms of sky conditions as skies have partially cleared out however you can see on the satellite loop the next round of moisture is moving toward us. Low pressure is developing along the Central Gulf coast and rain is already spreading northward into the Tennessee Valley and toward the Southeast US. We will have no issues tonight with clear skies to start but some clouds will begin to arrive later tonight. While it is clear temperatures will drop to the low to mid 30s along the coast and in the 20s inland.

Our local radars will remain quiet into Tuesday morning before rain begins to overspread the area from south to north during Tuesday.  The big question will be Tuesday evening and Tuesday night for inland areas as colder air aloft and to some degree at the surface will drain southward over the area. This argues for a change to wet snow inland north and west in New Jersey, Northeast Pennsylvania, Hudson Valley, Catskills and Interior Connecticut. There is the potential for several slushy inches to accumulate from this. Also this is the kind of situation that needs to be watched closely as intensity of the precipitation will be key to amounts. The NAM model which has the hot hand is the most aggressive of all the models. The map below is the new updated NAM snow forecast into Wednesday morning.
