DRY COLD SUNSHINE TODAY, WEAK COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH WEDNESDAY
THURSDAY CLOUDS AROUND SPOTTY LIGHT SNOW POSSIBLE?
RAIN FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY
It is never simple around here. Whenever it looks like it is going to be dry and nice for more than 3 ot 4 days you have to ask yourself what could change or go wrong. It is usually something that is week and rather innocuous and we have such a situation coming for Thursday but let’s set it up. Today is going to be cold day with plenty of sunshine. Skies are nice and clear over much of the Northeast into the Northern Middle Atlantic states. Temperatures which bottomed this morning in the teens in 20s are headed to the middle 30s inland and near 40 in the warmer urban centers. There are no weather issues today or tonight as we should be clear skies for the most part and lows down in the 20s with teens again in the colder areas away from warmer urban centers and away from coastal locations.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Wednesday brings sunshine and some clouds. Temperatures will reach into the lower 40s before the front comes through. There is no precipitation as the front goes by and then another cold high builds down from Southeastern Canada and into New England.
With a cold high in New England it will be holding stationary into Friday while warm air begins to move northeastward ahead of the next storm coming out of the Southern Plains. It appears that we could see an area of light snow that will break out head of storm. This and the cold high creates an onshore flow of cold air and a little moisture. You could see a period of light snow late Wednesday night into Thursday, The tough part is figuring out where it happens but I think the risk is there to at least mention it. This could be a coating to an inch type of situation if everything breaks right (or wrong) and for now we will just put the risk in the forecast and leave it there.
The next low brings rain here late Friday into Saturday morning. This system is moving out a bit faster so the bulk of the rain will be Friday night into Saturday morning. There could be a few more showers Saturday afternoon and evening. Dry air should return Sunday and we will see a shot of colder air coming in early next week. The overall weather pattern is one where temperatures are trending near average with weak shots of cold air coming in every three days or so. We continue to watch how the overall pattern evolves for the long range and we will look at that closely later today.
