Downpours Thunderstorms Evening Commute More Friday

Radar and satellite loops are showing downpours that have fired up this afternoon are moving slowly northeastward. There will be some impact to the even rush hour commute as some of these downpours are producing heavy rains. We are seeing some strong thunderstorms moving into Northwestern New Jersey and some other thunderstorms and downpours are moving out of the Hudson Valley and into Western Connecticut. The volatility on the radar is high so we could see new cells develop in the next few hours just about anywhere so keep an eye to the sky through the evening hours. After sunset we will see the see these thunderstorms fall apart and disappear like they have the last two nights.

Flash flood watch remains in effect for much of Pennsylvania southward into the Carolinas. Even though we do not have a flash flood watch for areas from New Jersey eastward, any strong thunderstorm that develops is capable of reaching severe levels and also capable of producing flash flooding.

Rains could be heavy enough to trigger off some flooding so be cautious on roadways as flooding could occur rather quickly. There really isn’t much change in the outlook for the next 2 days with the threat for downpours and thunderstorms on Friday and again on Saturday with highs in the 80s and very high humidity.

There is no change in the outlook for Sunday and Monday with sunshine hot and humid conditions. Highs will reach into the 90s. Thunderstorms and downpours Sunday and Monday will be few and far between. Real relief in the humidity could come later next week after another cold front passes Tuesday night.

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
