Downpours Exit Weekend Weather Decent Warm Monday
Downpours are right on schedule as a cold front is moving through the area interrupting what was a nice start to our Friday. The downpours are moving right along from west to east and there could be another downpour or two this evening. Otherwise dry air now moving into the Northern Great Lakes will start coming into tonight and skies should clear out nicely overnight setting us up for a good looking Saturday.
SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Regional and local radars show the area of downpours moving through with most of them concentrated in the Hudson Valley Connecticut and Long Island. They are more scattered over New Jersey. We don’t see any thunderstorms in the mix as of 2pm though some isolated cells could pop up this evening especially in areas to the South across Southern New Jersey and points southward.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR DOVER
There are no changes to the forecast for the weekend which is good news. Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s. There will be local sea breezes along the immediate coast. Saturday night into early Sunday morning a stray shower or two is possible as we transition to a warmer air mass on Sunday. Southwest winds Sunday and a mix of sun and clouds should send temperatures up to the mid 70s to lower 80s in most places. Downpours will be developing Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania but they should hold off until Sunday night.
Sunday night we could see some downpours. A warm front to the north and a cold front to the west will squeeze out whatever moisture we have around. Showers should be done before daybreak so it will be a matter of how much sun breaks through the clouds. I think enough will break through to send temperatures into the 80s in many areas. A west wind will spread the warm air to coastal areas as well.
Cooler air comes back in on Tuesday but it comes with dry air as well. We should see sunshine on Tuesday and again for at least part of Wednesday before clouds and showers start coming in. Weather models are a bit faster with the next weather system coming in from the Plains to the Midwest. Showers could arrive later Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. We still don’t have a lot of clarity regarding next weekend with is the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. I’m not overly optimistic at this point as it looks as if we will see showers at some point between Saturday and Monday. We have plenty of time to look this through in the coming days.
