Coldest Winter Weekend
This is the coldest winter weekend for sure as we head below 20 and we wont get back above 20 until sometime Monday morning in most places. The arctic front has passed through and we should see temperatures fall all day and through tonight, hitting bottom Sunday morning somewhere between zero and minus 5. These are the temperatures as of 8am Saturday

Coldest Winter Weekend Sunday Morning Forecast Lows
How low we get Sunday morning will depend on the wind direction. If there is more of a northerly component to the wind then a westerly component (320-330 degrees) then temperatures might finish a few degrees below model foecasts. A more northerly direction is right down the Hudson Valley which is typically how we see the coldest air move to the coast. Models always seem to have a real tough time with that concept.

Satellite & radars are showing the the effect of the arctic air over the warmer bodies of water as they pick up snow showers and snow squalls. That could still be an issue in a few places today.
Once we get through Sunday the next challenge will be the threat of snow ice and rain for Monday into Tuesday. Monday night we will be in the single digits to near zero in cold spots. Then on Monday temperatures will climb quickly as the high heads out to the east. Inland areas will probably see temperatures hold below 32 for awhile. Snow could be developing during Monday morning from south to north. Models have changed on how they are handling this first weather system as it appears much weaker from the stand point of a deep storm. Instead it has more of a warm front idea with a weak wave that moves along it on Tuesday. In the end I think everyone goes to rain at some point however there is the possibility of a prolonged period of ice inland. More on this later this morning as new model runs come out.
