Coldest Air Of The Winter Coming Next Storm System Early Next Week
As yesterday’s weak system continues to wind down today and we deal with leftover clouds, to the south a new storm will be developing in the Southern Mid Atlantic states bringing snow to the parts of the Central Appalachians as well as areas across Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina. This storm is not coming up the coast but headed out to the east. It will be pulling down from Greenland and Eastern Canada the coldest air of the season so far.

Meanwhile we are still seeing the last bands of snow on the New England regional radar pulling away to the east. Nothing is on the Mid Atlantic regional radar at the moment but we will see activity pick up here later today.
Meanwhile for most of us today we will spend the day in leftover clouds with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Then tonight look for clouds to still be around though the winds are going to pick up a bit from the north. Most lows will be in the mid 20s to lower 30s. Thursday look for it to be increasingly windy with clouds and some sun. Temperatures Thursday will go absolutely nowhere with highs in the low to mid 30s and then those temperatures plummet.
By Friday morning our lows will be in the in the single digits to mid teens in most places. Add to this a strong northerly wind and we are looking at wind chills down close to zero in many places. Friday we will see totally useless sunshine with gusty winds all day and highs just in the low to mid 20s. Then it is back down to single digits to mid teens Saturday morning. Saturday will be another day of grossly ineffective sunshine and highs just in the 20s in most places.
Sunday look for sunshine giving way to arriving clouds with most highs back in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Then we turn our attention to what is now a strong storm impacting California and the Southwest with heavy rain and very heavy snows. This system will move east under what is left of the block to the north and redevelop along the Carolinas. This storm stands a better chance than the last two of moving northward up the coast but there are issues with the positioning of the block and other factors including what is going on in the Western US aloft. This probably puts another chance of snow on the table for early next week but there is much to chew through here regarding what might or might not happen, including the possibility that this all gets suppressed to the south. We have days to watch this and I am actually going to take a little break today and ignore the models and will be back tonight at 9:30pm for the Joe & Joe Weather Show.
