Colder Trend Begins Wednesday Through Weekend

Snow Chance Continues Sunday

The overnight band of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and some wet snow moved through and now has passed to the east. A warm front is pushing east but having a very difficult time as it gets pinned back west of the mountains in Pennsylvania where temperatures are in the 50s.

Here we are in the 30s this morning with various areas in the Hudson Valley, Northern New Jersey, and Northeast Pennsylvania still hovering in the lower 30s. Coastal areas on a south wind have jumped into the low 40s on schedule. We have lots of clouds on the satellite loop moving through as the first of two lows moves away to the northeast in Southern Canada.

We don’t have much happening on the regional and local radars this morning as the overnight precipitation has pulled out. We probably will spend much of the day in clouds before another round of rain showers moves in later this afternoon into tonight. Temperatures today should reach into and make their way through the 40s in most places..possibly near 50 South Jersey and Southeast Pennsylvania.

Wednesday begins the descent downward though it doesn’t come in a rush. Strong gusty winds develop from the northwest with some sunshine and clouds. Temperatures will be in the 40s with winds gusting at times to 35 mph or so. Low pressure strengthening in New Brunswick and High Pressure over Lake Superior mean a very tight pressure gradient develops and actually holds into Friday.

With temperatures forecast to go lower as the high moves into the Eastern Lakes and Southern Canada it will set the stage for the next system coming out of the south. Weather models are doing their best job of torturing sadist and masochist snow lovers with perfect snow storm tracks on one run and total misses on others.

Nothing has changed since yesterday regarding how this plays out. We will examine today’s models as we search for clues. It will really be all about the northern jet stream and the timing with the south. I don’t expect complete clarity on this until perhaps Thursday.
