Colder Tonight Thursday Next Storm Brings Rain Friday Night Saturday

Tallying up the numbers on the overnight and morning snow fall the big winners were east and north of NYC where 3 to 4 inches of snow accumulated in some areas. 1 to 2 inches was commonplace in others. Overall it was a rather decent snowfall from a weather front that didn’t seem to have much going for it other than a flat wave and bit of overrunning precipitation. None the less it adds to the snowfall of December 1-2 making this a rather active first 10 days of the month. Now it is on to cold temperatures tonight.

REGIONAL RADAR

The satellite picture shows that we have cleared out for the most part and the regional radar shows that all the snow is long gone. Now it is a matter of how cold it gets tonight with clear skies. We see most lows in warmer urban centers and along the coast in the low to mid 20s  but teens will be common in many areas inland.

Colder Tonight Thursday Next Storm Brings Rain Friday Night Saturday

Thursday will be a cold day with a good deal of sunshine. Most highs will be in the low to mid 30s and then it is back down into the 20s Friday morning with teens in cold spots. Skies should be clear Thursday night but clouds will being to arrive on Friday. This cold high moves quickly out to sea as there is nothing holding the cold air mass in. Highs will reach into the 40s Friday and then hold there Friday night as low pressure develops in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico and heads up the East Coast for Saturday.

Colder Tonight Thursday Next Storm Brings Rain Friday Night Saturday

This looks like a solid rain producer as the low barrels up the coast Saturday. Rain should arrive during Friday night and all the cold air is gone so it starts as rain everywhere including areas well inland. In fact this storm brings rain all the way up into Northern New England! Saturday’s highs will reach into the 50s before the rain ends and the low moves northward into Canada. Weather conditions should improve somewhat on Sunday on the backside with gusty winds and some sun. Highs will be in the 40s. Colder air returns Monday with highs in the 30s. The next system will be headed out of the Southern Plains and toward us for Tuesday. The upper air pattern early next week becomes  a bit more blocky that what we have now. It could bring either snow or snow changing to rain here for Tuesday.
