Cold Front Approaches Quiet Weekend Chance Snow Sunday Night
We begin this Friday with lots of clouds that came in overnight and the passing of a weak warm front with a few showers showing up on regional and local radars. We will end the day with a cold front and a few showers that will show up on the regional and local radars. We will spend the time in between in clouds and temperatures that should rise up into the 50s except for areas that are prone to sea breezes which are of course the south and east facing shorelines of our area. The sun might poke through from time to time but that should be it as far as sun is concerned today.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
We area seeing the activity this morning as a stick of moisture is moving through the area and then a large gap to the west in Pennsylvania where the cold front is with not much action going on in between.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Today actually begins a parade of weak weather systems that will be coming eastward all thanks to a very deep trough that remains out in the West where more flooding rains and heavy snows are coming for the West Coast and interior areas there. For us the energy will be coming eastward but it will be weak as it hits the upper high in the East and fails to intensify.
System number 1 is on the map late today in Northern Louisiana while our cold front comes through. After we see some evening passing showers we should clear out tonight with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Saturday looks like a decent day here but some high clouds could be close by in the morning as that first system passes to our south. More sun should develop as the day wears on with highs in the 40s. Colder air follows Saturday night with lows in the 20s under clear skies.
The GFS model loop above shows the next 3 systems with one coming through every 2 days which is a rather active pace. There is not a lot of room for big events here. Saturday’s system is weak and to the south. Sunday look for arriving clouds and we could see some snow or rain Sunday evening and overnight. That moves out Monday morning. Then the next one that follows for the middle of next week continues to look a lot like the one we went through last Tuesday though it appears less developed this time around. Cold air is rather marginal so we will be playing all sorts of games trying to figure out how much snow/ice impact there will be. First things first is Sunday night into Monday which could be a coating to an inch or so possibility for some places. We will work out the details with that one later today.
MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
