Cold Dry Weather Continues As Storm Brings Snow Southern Mid Atlantic
All this blocking in the North Atlantic is so strong that we are going to see a nice little snow storm for the Southern Middle Atlantic states south into Northeast Georgia. Winter Storm Warnings have already been issued ahead of this storm system in Northwestern North Carolina and Southwestern Virginia. Winter Storm Watches extend southward to Northeast Georgia to within 50 miles of Atlanta!
Snow forecasts for up to six inches are likely in parts of Western North Carolina especially in elevated areas above 2000 feet. Several inches are likely down to the mountains of Northern Georgia. This low will however never come close to us.
Low pressure to our northeast is still out there between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland leaving no room for this storm to move northward so it moves eastward instead. We remain under breezy conditions today with clouds and some sunshine. Bands of clouds sweep in from the east from time to time but precipitation remains offshore.

The weather remains quiet through the weekend and also we can throw in Monday of next week. We should see some sunshine and high clouds for Friday and for Saturday. Sunday should be a day of sunshine. HIgh temperatures each day will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Nighttime lows will be in the 20s to near 30.
For snow lovers, there is reason to grow cautiously bullish with the idea of the follow up storm system moving across the Southern States will be a player in the Mid Atlantic and Northeast next Tuesday into Wednesday. First and foremost are signs that the strong block in the North Atlantic will weaken somewhat next week but still remain a presence. The weaker block signature would allow storms to move further north while at the same time tracking south of Southern England and east of New Jersey putting our are on the colder side of any storm.
All the models show energy passing to our south Tuesday into Tuesday night and at least 2 models bring precipitation here (snow) for Tuesday into early Wednesday. If the block doesn’t weaken as forecast then we could see another storm passes to our south. If it weakens too much then we will see warmer air from off the ocean come into the mix. For now we will just focus on the possibility of some winter weather early next week and leave the speculation to later.
